FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

I'M NERVOUS FOR MY FIRST LESSON, IS THAT NORMAL?

Totally! It’s completely normal to feel nervous before your first singing lesson — especially if you’ve never done anything like this before. Our tutors are warm, friendly, and will help you feel at ease from the moment you arrive. We teach students of all ages and experience levels, so please don’t worry about where you’re at in your vocal journey. If everyone was already at their best, we’d be out of a job! We believe in progress over perfection — and our goal is to help you grow in confidence, enjoy your lessons, and discover what your voice is truly capable of.

HOW MUCH DO LESSONS COST AND HOW DO I PAY?

Lessons are charged at £17.50 per 30 minutes (£35 per hour), but we offer a free 30-minute trial lesson for all new students — giving you a chance to try before you buy, with no obligation to continue. Lessons are pay-as-you-go, so there’s no need to pay in blocks. You simply pay at each lesson. We accept card payments via our studio card machine (including contactless and Apple Pay), as well as cash. Please note: we do not accept bank transfers.

WHAT AGES DO YOU TEACH?

We teach all ages and abilities, starting from age 5 up to mature adult students. If your child is under 7, we'll always let you know if we think they're a bit too young to fully engage with lessons after their free taster session.

DO YOU TEACH SEN CHILDREN?

Although we don’t currently hold formal SEN teaching qualifications, we’ve had the privilege of working with many children over the years and have developed a strong understanding of the patience and care it requires. If your child has any specific needs, we kindly ask that you drop us a message beforehand. This helps us ensure the environment is set up appropriately and that our tutors are fully informed to provide the most comfortable experience possible. We pride ourselves on creating an inclusive space where every student feels safe, supported, and celebrated.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I ATTEND LESSONS?

To get the most out of your lessons, we recommend booking weekly, or at least fortnightly sessions — consistency is key to making steady progress with your voice. For children aged 5–10, we suggest starting with 30-minute lessons, as younger students often find it tricky to maintain focus for a full hour. For students aged 11 and above, including adults, we recommend 1-hour sessions — 30 minutes tends to fly by, and a full hour allows more time to develop technique and work through songs at a comfortable pace.

If you're looking for one-off or ad-hoc lessons that fit around your schedule or budget, we can add you to our WhatsApp cancellations group, where we post any last-minute availability each week. Alternatively, you can book a fortnightly slot and cancel the weeks you’re unavailable, as long as you give at least 24 hours’ notice. This option helps you keep hold of a regular time slot that works best for you.

WHERE ARE YOU BASED?

We are based at The Production House in Tunstall, ST6 6DW.

WHAT DOES A SINGING LESSON ENTAIL?

All lessons are tailored to the students identified needs, their age and ability. A typical lesson includes vocal warm-ups, breath control, pitch training, and techniques like projection, articulation, and range development. We work on songs suited to the student’s age and ability, focusing on weak spots and building confidence. Stage presence, microphone technique, and expression are introduced to support live performance and audition prep in a fun, supportive environment.
